Heavy smelting steel (HMS), also known as HMS 1 & 2, refers to a category of steel scrap that is widely used in various industries. It is a combination of two types of steel scrap, HMS 1 and HMS 2, which are differentiated based on their thickness and size

HMS scrap comes from iron recovered from obsolete material that is remelted and recycled with a specific size and density for each piece of scrap metal with the purpose of increasing it performance in recasting dimensions the maximums are usually around 1.50 MTS X 0.60 MTS

HEAVY MELTING STEEL HMS 1

HMS 1 is the term for heavier scrap, Wrought iron and/or steel scrap 1/4 inch and over in thickness.    HMS 1 typically includes thicker steel scrap, such as beams and plates.   The size of the pieces should not be larger than 1.5 m x 0.60 m.,  It is important to know that both HMS 1 and HMS 2 must be free of oil, grease, dirt, as well as free of Cast Iron, which is recognized for being rigid and breaks when trying to bend it due to its higher content of carbon

HEAVY MELTING STEEL HMS 2

HMS 2 would be lighter steel scrap such as thin wall tubing, sheet scrap less than 1/8 inch or 3.2mm thick and so on. HMS 2 may contain galvanized and blackened steel whereas HMS 1 does not.

Cast Steel Castings

Cast Iron is brittle compared to HMS and P&S. Cast Iron Scrap is an alloy of iron that contains high amounts of carbon. The carbon content makes it susceptible to corrosion. As a result, Cast Iron scrap is often rusted and worn. It is mainly found in the form of castings and pipings, even though it is used in several other forms.

PLATE AND STRUCTURE SCRAP (PNS)

Plate and structural steel typically comes in the form of I-beam or plate over ½” thick. This is one of the highest grades of steel due to its 100% recovery when melted.

Very dense, clean, new or obsolete steel plates (includes torch cut plate or skeleton plate), structural shapes or crop ends. Should be free of non-ferrous metals and other contaminants.
